Feeling

Without feeling, o son, humans would be just another form of animal. Animals are valuable, and they have feelings, of sorts, but it is, importantly, feeling that distinguishes the human. (There is thought, too, but that lesson will come at another time.)

(You anticipate some of this teaching and feel, as well as know, that it will be elemental… that which you already know. Make that judgment at the close, and even if it is true, ponder the value of what I have had you recall and reorganize. Trust Me.)

Without feeling the human rational power is like unto a computer. (And there are those now who would try to give the computer feeling. Or at least cause it to evidence feelings.) You read briefly from My servant Howard’s latest letter in which he confided that he makes decisions as much by intuition as by facts. If a human is making decisions… or just living… and I’ll point it to you directly… you need to include feeling as well as factual analysis.

And, more importantly, you need to tap into what I know and what I feel. For with Me feeling is vital. Without a God who feels the universe would operate just as a vast mechanical system. (And there are those who still cling to this limiting concept.)

I have talked to you about justice and mercy, and these are related. Justice can be meted out without feeling, but mercy comes from feeling. I would be less of a God and you would be less of a human without the feeling for and the practice (based on that feeling) of mercy.

And therefore you must see where this is going. Simple feelings are emotions. Simple feeling is emotion. But feeling that is part of an enduring relationship becomes spiritual. As your feeling for another person becomes entwined in an enduring relationship this is transformed to a relationship of the spirit.

And, vitally, as your feeling interweaves with Mine, our spiritual relationship grows and becomes. Spiritual is the overarching relationship. It brings the others together in a coordinating way.

In a spiritual relationship you are free to express your feeling. And some feelings can be negative. (I have been known to express anger, disgust, and frustration at the hearts and actions of My creations.) But the spiritual helps restore the balance… restore the rhythm. There is a time for hate as well as a time for love, but the spirit (+ My Spirit) gives more time for love… tips the balance toward the constructive and the beautiful. The rhythm is there, but it is more major than minor.

Ponder this example. You play and sing almost entirely in major chords. Yet several songs could not be sung without at least that one minor. And there are some songs that would be good for you to have but they require minor chording. To play and sing entirely in minor would not be you. But to try to do all in major harmony limits you. So it is with feeling in the spirit.

To feel and express the warm and the positive is to be the you I purpose. (And I purpose others with different rhythms… Lenore, for example.) But to reject and neglect the harsh and the negative, when they are real, is to be limited. It is not the rhythm you should have.
