Prevention

Prevention is a concept with which you are familiar, o son. In relation to physical health it refers to measures and ways of living that make disease and accidents less likely… even forestalling such so that they do not occur. You wear a seat belt not to prevent an accident but to prevent injury or death in the event of an accident. Prevention is behavior, immediate or as a regular part of lifestyle, that keeps you healthy, at least in the sense of being disease-and accident-free.

You suspect that My concern on this cool Hawaiian morning is not with these aforementioned matters, important as they seem to be in earth life. Right. For prevention also can apply in the realm of spirit, My favorite domain. It still is only a quasi-positive concept, not truly positive as health, wellness, and well-being. Even though your life task is to focus on the positive, you still must have experiences that involve illness and disability, and you also must consider prevention as a concept between the extremes.

In the realm of spirit the desired state is one of active relationship with Me, as Holy Spirit, as Jesus the Christ, or as Almighty God. Different people perceive Me differently, and I come in more ways that you can imagine. I shall not reiterate the variety of relationships that can and do develop, but you are aware that this variety is vast.

Yet there are some commonalities. The first is an awareness that the essence of life is spirit, and that this spirit continues on in some way after physical death. There also is an awareness that the essence of life is creation and that there is an active Creator. This Creator has an active role which influences this creation, large and small. Finally all spiritually healthy persons have appreciation of the fact that life is given and that they have some responsibility to the Giver, which includes obligations to others in the earth.

One of the differences in spiritual paths is the extent to which individuals, groups, or congregations focus on evil as a part of this creation. That is, does one focus on one’s evil nature, which often can overcome one’s good nature? Is focus on evil in the earth, even on the actions of an evil One (that’s just for emphasis… you know I don’t approve of capitalization for any such personifications) that counter the actions of God and of one’s relationship therewith?

The more anyone or group is aware of evil as an active force the more prevention is important. The disease analogy is a rather good one. The more you believe in and see the destructive effects of cancer, the more motivated you should be to take preventive measures. You are aware that being overweight is a precursor to certain degenerative disease conditions, so this should motive you to lose weight down to a healthier point so as to prevent these consequences… even at the expense of enjoyment in eating.
