Remember The Sabbath

JULY 8, 1979, 6:18 AM

One of My great commandments, o sleepy son, is to remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy. You and most of my servants give this a try, but cannot achieve more than a partial remembrance. Oh, I am impressed with the “counter commandment”, given in truth by some and as an excuse by others… “remember each day that the Lord has made and keep each day as holy as another”.

I admit that this represents a spiritual truth… probably more important than that in the commandment. I want you to acknowledge Me as holy and remember My work of creation many times a day. The simple “Thank you, Lord” after many a mundane task, if it represents true thanks and a genuine sense that I was and still am involved, is pleasing to Me.

But the commandment has another purpose. It represents a tithe… a gift to me of something that you need or certainly could use, logically, in some other way. It is saying, “Lord, this day is yours. I shall remember You and Your Mighty works this day, throughout the day. I shall do nothing to distract myself from this discipline of remembrance.”

The “rub” is in the discipline. Without the discipline, which you have not, you simply cannot keep the commandment in its fullness. You cannot fulfill this dedication of time and attention. Your mind wanders to the lists and to the responsibilities. You think of what you can and must do when this lesson is over, when worship is over, when your remembrance of Me is done… (yes, is pau.) So, your discipline is sadly lacking. (Lucky for you, I forgive as well as command!)

The commandment is Remember. So, this day, seek to acknowledge Me in all you do. Acknowledge My creation and My continued concern for My creation and creations. Keep these thoughts uppermost… or bring them back to uppermost should they slip and slide. “Remember” has within it the rhythmic concept of forgetting. You can remember only as you have forgotten. So, you will forget… and then you will remember… and fulfill My commandment.
