Stories, No Ka Oe

After some time away from these morning meditations I need to remind you, yet again, of the value of stories in human life and in the educative process. The time “away” was necessary to write your Ruminations, which has been accomplished. Polish the letter a bit, but you know that it needs no major rewriting. Then be sure that you get it printed and out early in this next month. Don’t wait so that it becomes part of the real “Christmas rush.”
You have a story, and part of it is that you write this letter of Ruminations each three months of each year. It no longer is a burden… just a pleasant opportunity. How long will this remain part of your story? For the foreseeable future, for I do approve of what We do together. Jone’s affirmation yesterday lets you know the themes are appreciated. Fret not about those who drop away. You must write to Anajean, however, for I want the two of you in contact. This is the means, even as it is not entirely pleasant for her or for you. Just know, and let her know, that it is My will that this relationship continue. She is a small part of your life story, and you of hers. That’s all I need to say.
The Christmas story is reappearing now, in its season. Focus not upon the aspects that bother you. All the details are not important to you, but each detail is quite critical for some person, some group, or some church. For you the importance of the story is that I, Almighty God, came into the earth in a fairly unmiraculous fashion. I was born as a baby in humble circumstances, in a busy time. The news came first to humble men who tended sheep at night, and it came through angels. (That was a bit spectacular!) I arrived in a natural way, and yet it had to be known that this was a most unusual event for humankind.
The Christmas story is a story in itself, but it is also just a small part of the Jesus story, and an even smaller part of the story of God and humans. I continue to urge you to know this whole story better. With more understanding of the whole you shall have a better perspective on how you are part of God’s story and how We are part of your story. If the time should come that your Sunday class would no longer be (and I shall let you know this, by this direct method, so continue until I say Enough) you should become part of the Bible class.
In your classes continue to make assignments that offer the opportunity to tell a story. Each story that a student shares with you is part of his or her story, and the very way it is told is also part of that story. With many students you can’t remember the details of each story, but a few shall be memorable. Remember to take time to let some students know that you particularly appreciate their stories.
And what about My story? I, the Holy Spirit, certainly have a story, but I am definitely a “minor character” in the Bible story. Yes, sometime you shall write a Ruminations on Me and on what I have told you about Me. While it is right that I should not be “featured” in the Bible story, I have been active in the world since its origin, and particularly since humans, with immortal souls, came into the earth. The human story would just have been different without My presence and My actions. The basic deficiency in scientific study is the lack of consideration of Me and My role in earth events.
Each of your sons has a story. Encourage each to become conscious of that story and to tell I, appropriately. Somehow, seeing your life as a story allows more appreciation of details and relationships. A story is different from a history… though history can be put in story form. Stories are not bound by chronological events. Dates and places are important only as they make the story more complete.
