The Rational… The Mystical

Your culture, as well as most of the “developed” ones on earth, is strong on rationality. The study and practices of science are based on the assumption that this is a physical “place” and that rational and scientific thinking… and actions… are the ways to fullest understanding. You were in a field that claimed to be scientific, even as you were never “sold” on this as the way to achieve and maintain health.

Actually I “created” the mind, as a function of the brain, to be able to think, rationally. It has mainly been a boon to humankind… though I surely can offer examples of misuse of this “power.” So you humans have the capacity… and some urges… to be rational creatures. Yet each of you is more fundamentally spiritual, and these can be in conflict… almost as easily as they complement each other. The spiritual includes the mystical, which can… and does, often… be “other than” the rational. (It doesn’t have to directly and clearly oppose the rational. It just is “different.”)

Let’s consider some examples, from John’s Gospel, your focus after this morning’s breakfast. Remember, first, that I do love diversity, so there is no need to ask – “which is it? this or that?” John proclaims, through Me, as Jesus, that I am come so that all may have eternal life. Yet I, as the Yahweh God, harden the hearts and stop the ears of some humans. Yes, it’s Both/And. Actually it is that even with hardened hearts some will come to Me. And some whom I call won’t come or come, but then “fall away.” With some it is a process in stages.

You are a good example. Permit Me to “use you.” First, there was… and is… a destiny to your life. Your spiritual development before your life as Bob Russell was sufficient for this “attempt.” Your life work was to be a teacher – a guider of learning. So you needed a rational education, and one sufficient to qualify you for the university level. You also had a destined life partner, so that factor had to be “worked in.” You had choices, and you made the right ones, with My help. (How much? It matters not.)

My Scriptures, including this Gospel of John, were a means to bring you closer to Me and help you realize that you were “born again.” This was both your “choice” (How free? It matters not.), and My guiding, and your destiny. Then, not quite 20 years ago I made another “move.” If you were “ready,” spiritually, you would take this opportunity and stick with it. My Teachings to you began, you responded favorably, and you became, slowly but surely, a mystic, when you knew very little about this possibility in human life.

Rationally it was very suspect, at best, but you were able to include it in your life. You, with My encouragement, began Our Ruminations, a good way for you to share some of what I am teaching you. This is now rather comfortably a part of your ongoing life, even as it is anathema to your rational mind… and to the minds of many others.

From this perspective you rightly took issue with a statement attributed to Me, by John. “If you love this earth life you will lose out spiritually. If you hate this life you will be rewarded, spiritually” (That’s close enough!) This could be so, but I have guided you in ways that result, for you, in… “You can love this life, in many sincere ways, but then can give it up… something good for something better.” Love this life. Live it fully and joyfully. Then, when it is “time” (when your “time has come”… and you should be able to recognize this rather clearly) you give this up for that which is even better – life in the spirit. You’ve done it before. You’ll do it again, I’m certain.

It would be good, of course, if there were some element of sacrifice in this “transition,” as there was for Me, as Jesus. That may come “naturally,” and you’ll recognize it, or I may arrange this for you, in one of My many mystical ways.
