The Spirit In Places

Spirit is too often portrayed as only a characteristic of humans and not really a part of other aspects of earth life. So I shall continue to tell you that spirit emanates from Me, and, though I am most responsible for and most responsive to spirit in humans I also have “distributed” spirit in many other ways.

I have told you this before, but it needs repeating now: spirit can be discerned in places, as well as in human groups and in animals. Because humans have, and share, spirit more than anyone or any place their presence can enhance the spirit felt in a place. There were many football games this afternoon, followed by many tonight and preceded by many last night. In most of those stadia there was spirit, exuded by coaches and players and encouraged by the young men and women who encouraged yelling and singing. And hence the very brick and mortar that caused the stadia to be began to both encourage and accumulate spirit.

Even this stadium on this campus, McAndrew Field, is a source and an arena for spirit. There have been some thrilling plays and games in this familiar place, and to be there is an act inviting spirit. As a coach you felt spirit on Alexander Field, even as that was also a practice field. You still have a remembrance of the spirit that bubbled forth from the Honolulu Stadium, when your Punahou varsity played there… or, more truly, 4 times a weekend during football season.

There also was spirit in that Alexander Field area during track season, your most successful coaching experience. But I want to comment on the spirit in places, now almost 50 years later. There are many places of spirit as your working professional life “winds down”. There was some spirit in your original office in Lingle Hall, but you didn’t actually experience it as much as you have, in this Pulliam office. There has been much active human/spiritual interacting in it, and it also has been your “place” in this last, and most spiritual, period of your professional life.

I have given you Teachings there, and I have encouraged a number of students to take classes from you… and to come and talk with you. There was space, comfortable furniture, music, and light from the windows overlooking a pretty part of the campus. Now, shortly, it shall be Mark’s, and the spirit of that place may remain or may diminish.

It probably is obvious that church buildings, particularly sanctuaries, can build up and exude spirit. You feel it in your sanctuary, over more than 20 years of association… but you also feel it in the Cobden church, with less experience there.

This Farm and this Farmhouse… and, even this study… are important places of spirit for you. You need to clean this room up, and redecorate it but even in its messy state it reeks of the spiritual. Within it are all of the original Teachings, as well as the computer generated ones for 5 or 6 years. You have heard Me and written the majority of Teachings at this desk. Nothing could make a place more spirit-filled.

You spent some time in several loci, in the Farm this evening, places with spirit, for you. You have identified more, and soon you shall identify and clear paths to these sites. You didn’t really need more specific places for spirit, but it will be good to be clearer about what, where, and why these are.
