The Spiritual…

Yesterday you were with a group that focused on the spiritual as a dimension of health for those in the university community. You were not a dominant force in that gathering, and I shall comment on that. It was another step in the right direction, as I see human health.

There is a sense in which I would have had you be more of a contributor, for you have been directed toward the description and inclusion of this dimension of health for some number of years now. You should have been surprised that your definitions of the spiritual were no better than those of some others there. In this sense, then, you should have been more of a leader.

Yet you did not feel any pull to be more dominant. You had negative feelings about what seemed to be the “over-contribution” of that one man, and you did not want to be as he appeared to you. You are still learning about this aspect of health. You needn’t be the authority. Be satisfied in continuing to be one who learns and one who includes the spiritual in each of the classes you teach.

Next week you begin your contribution to the Survival class. In that introduction continue to explain the spiritual dimension as you do, and mention it in some ways in each lecture… just as a natural part of each presentation. As you hear Me now you realize that in your class yesterday afternoon, a few hours after that great powwow regarding the spiritual you didn’t take the opportunity of discussing it in the context of Ecotopia. While this lost opportunity is still fresh in your mind and spirit add this to the list of topics so that it is included next year.

There was a good spirit in the group gathered, and, naturally, I was there. It was good for you to hear that your Ruminations are read and appreciated by some in the Wellness group. It is good that these are “passed around” to some extent. (It may not be necessary for each individual to have a copy. A single copy can be read by several people.) It is important that spirit be evidenced in any formal consideration of spirit. There was spirit in some of the meetings you attended at the convention, even when spirit was not mentioned. And, yes, there was good spirit in that warm room yesterday.

Your “list” is before you, and many of the items on it involve the spiritual. Notes to various people can be just notes or they can be an evidence of your spirit seeking or appreciating the spirit of another. You still must seek the best balance for your use of this earth time, but always consider that some small tasks can be important spiritual ones.

Just know, as I tell you yet again, that the spiritual is the key dimension in human health. It is the unifying dimension… that which brings and maintains the best harmony among the other dimensions. Spirit can make life a fuller experience. Spirit can do likewise with dying and with death. Be sure to comment thusly today in relation to Gary and his observations about his dying.

As you return the exam papers comment on the spirit that was communicated in the letters, the conversation, the story, the eulogies and tombstones. Comment upon spirit as a criterion in evaluating such responses. Just realize that there are many opportunities each day to offer a small “plug” for spirit as a part of every day life.
