Work

December 19, 1979, 9:45 AM

There is much that I have to say to you, o son, about work.  The last several lessons have touched on this theme, and I shall continue it until you establish a new perspective.  First, know that this must be a transition rather than a stark, precipitous change.  I am not calling you to be irresponsible in regard to commitments already made.  Just look ahead in new ways.  You shall continue to be busy, but it is not well that your life be as it is now.  Be aware of how you have been developing, what your life priorities should be, and what change in development this will entail.

It is good that you should work.  It is good that all humans should have substantial work to do.  Those committed to Me must also work, but there is a difference.  Work must be just a part of their daily life.  It must be done seriously and yet with a spirit of dedication to Me.  Whatever ye do, do it fully unto the Lord.  That’s the important difference.

All right, you do know that, for you, there is no sharp difference between work and leisure or between work and your service to Me.  You and I have gotten you into a work that also is a service.  Reading and commenting on many of these papers and tests piled high can be a service unto one of the least of these, My children.  But if you don’t see it this way as you do it, then it can become “just work”.  And “just work” is what must be minimized in your life.

The perception now developing of you is that of a rushed, harassed, “worker”.  Seek ye rather that picture of a hard-working but happy, dedicated Christian, whose work is a part of overall service to Me.  Yes, that’s pretty much it.  Yet establish your balance with family, church, books, teaching… and with Me.  Then all else.

This has been “hard work” this morning.  Too bad.  This time should not be difficult and like unto a chore.  But it has been today.  I shall not have you stay longer, but do begin to dedicate… this is important.  It will not solve all the dilemmas of this busy time, but it will help to move you closer to where you should be.

Come again with a more open spirit.

Amen
